Dr. Joan A. Cotter holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, a master's degree in curriculum and instruction, and a Ph.D. in mathematics education. She worked as an engineer at Univac (now Unisys), resigning when her children were born. She taught her three children at home before and after school and during summer vacations. To help them learn their arithmetic, she devised card games that were published in her first book, Math Card Games: 300 Games for Learning and Enjoying Math. Dr. Cotter designed the double-sided AL Abacus and wrote RightStart Mathematics, a comprehensive elementary and middle school mathematics program that incorporates visualization, the AL Abacus, and math card games. Dr. Jobe Martin was a biology major as an undergraduate before attending and graduating from dental school. He served two years in the Air Force where he was the dentist for the Presidential flight crew of Air Force One. Then he established a private dental practice at NASA in Houston and finally moved with his wife Jenna Dee to Dallas to teach at the Baylor College of Dentistry. While at Dallas Theological Seminary in the 1980’s where he earned a Masters of Theology, he and wife Jenna Dee founded Biblical Discipleship Ministries. He is a nationally known author and speaker on creationism. Jenna Dee is a retired R.N and ministers to women. The Martins’ daughters, Taryn and Mirren, both Ph.D.’s in history, work with their parents in the ministry and conduct seminars for young ladies. Brian has been married to Michele for 19 years. They have five teenagers with ages ranging from 13 to 17, including 16-year-old twin daughters. They home schooled for a number of years before sending their children to a charter school. Brian grew up in various Army bases across the US, but has now lived in Texas longer than any other state.
